Comments Off on The Secret To Finding The Best Lodging Might Surprise You

Everyone is always to gain the upper hand on everything around them in the hopes of acquiring, or experiencing, the so-called ‘best’. The travel industry is no stranger to this, and for years, travelers of all kinds have done all they can to get the best lodging possible everywhere they go. The biggest problem with trying to get ‘the best’ of anything is trying to have an actual working definition of what that would be.

Going back to the issue of the ‘best’ lodging, it would seem that on the surface, being able to get the quintessential hotel room booked would be pretty easy to determine who won out on finding the best lodging possible. There’s just one problem – hotels are not the only form of lodging available to travelers. It’s an unending argument that does nothing more than spoil any good time you try to have while traveling because you are too busy trying to determine your level of awesomeness to others in a contest no one is having or cares about.

However, maybe you’re still stuck on finding the ‘best’ lodging, and you really want to some inside intel on making it happen. The secret to finding the best lodging is… well, there is no secret. That’s the kicker in all of this. Finding the best place to stay when you travel doesn’t actually require a secret at all.

Here’s all you need to get tremendous value on lodging for your next trip:

Compare Rates and Deals from Various Websites – This requires a bit of work on your part, but comparing the prices of lodging deals from one website to another may actually get you some pretty serious savings. Some websites have emerged in the last few years that actually make the comparisons for you, but there’s nothing like putting in the work yourself.

Try Waiting Until the Last-Minute – Finding a place to stay when you travel can be necessary all of a sudden, with only a few hours notice. That said, there are a lot of great websites and apps that work for you in these situations. Moreover, even if you’re actively choosing to wait for a deal, you still have tools at your disposal.

Consider Alternative Lodging Options – Vacation rentals, condos, hostels, and even privately rented rooms are all options depending on your needs & whether you’re traveling alone, for work, or with your family.

Negotiate with the Hotel Directly – Go old-school and call the hotel you’d like to stay at & see if they can do some price-matching with deals you’ve found. This direct approach is championed by travel gurus as a highly successful way to score savings.

Lodging is really about what will make you feel the most comfortable when you travel. It’s not about ‘the best’ of anything. So long as you have a firm understanding of the amenities you want versus those you need, it stands to reason you’ll easily find the perfect place to call your “home away from home” on your next adventure out of town.

Comments Off on 5 Useful Tips for a Desert Safari

The vast lands of a desert can make a perfect tourist destination for a fun and action packed desert safari. They involve plenty of sports and adventure activities, such as dune bashing, camel riding, quad biking and sand boarding. Additionally, there is the opportunity to experience traditional activities like henna painting, falconry, and watching local dance forms at the campsite.

A desert safari can take place during the day, but will be very hot at certain times of the year with the temperature reaching up to 55° C. However, a more relaxed tour experience is possible at night when the climate conditions are more comfortable.

However, there are plenty of things to consider in the process of getting prepared for a desert safari. Here are a few tips to make the all-round experience a lot more fun and comfortable:

Wear comfortable clothes

The preferred clothing for the desert safari is casual, loose and comfortable. This is likely to include clothes like cotton shirts, pants or shorts. The preferred footwear is sandals, flip-flops or other open shoes. There will be plenty of activities that involve being out in the sand, so open shoes are important to avoid issues with sand constantly getting in the closed shoes. Also, it will benefit to limit the amount of jewelry worn.

Additionally, it is worth considering the tour activities when deciding on the clothing. For instance, if a camel ride is likely to be a major part of the tour it can benefit to wear the long pants for the most comfortable experience.

Take notice of the instructors

The desert safari can include a variety of rough and adventurous activities, so it is important to listen to the instructor. For instance, the dune bashing activity is certain to quite rough. If the guidelines are followed there is no reason why everyone shouldn’t stay safe and have a fun time. The adventures on the steep dunes will be fun and exhilarating, but is best to simply relax and let the skilled driver take control.

Pack the right supplies

It is not necessary to pack much for the desert safari, but a few useful items to consider include sunscreen, sunglasses and a light jacket. If planning a night tour, the desert temperature will be noticeable cooler in the evening. Also, the sunglasses will not only help to block the sunlight, but will prevent the sand getting into the eyes. Sunscreen is an obvious item on a desert tour to shield your body from the intense desert rays and minimize the risk of burned skin.

Choose the right time

The preferred time to visit a desert region is during the months of November to March. A desert safari will be a lot more comfortable in the winter months. The temperature will be a lot cooler later in the day. Also, it will be possible to catch a striking sunset. However, the winter months are the major tourist season, so it will be necessary to expect more crowds and more competition to book the activities.

Pack a camera

There will be plenty of photo opportunities on a desert safari. Even though many will think the desert and sand dunes are simply a hot and barren place, there are in fact plenty of wonderful views that can take your breath away. Also, it will benefit to pack an extra battery to ensure the desired number of photos can be taken. One of the great things to capture will be the many different reptile and mammal species.

The chill of the high altitude, the fresheness in the air, the soothing green of the surrounding, and of course, the cascade of water torrenting down a rocky edge, but in a beautiful tranquil manner – everything makes waterfalls the ideal sightseeing scene. Though some of the below mentioned waterfalls may be less approachable than the others, you should know about them and chalk out a plan to take a trip there.

Gullfoss (Golden falls), Iceland

This is one of the most gorgeous waterfalls, especially during the winter. Gullfoss is particularly known for its shape, this wild waterfall tumbles on the Hvítá River in two tiers at 90 degree angles to each other. Due to a crevice, the river Hvítá seems to disappear into the abyss. Set in an environment of mystique, the allure of this waterfall is in its surrounding as well.

Niagra falls, USA and Canada

Spanning across the two countries of Canada and USA, Niagara Falls is one of the most well-known ones in the world. Owing to its popularity, the surroundings aren’t as naturesque as the others. But easy accessibility and numerous view points make it desirable. It is formed of two sections – the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side and the American Falls on the American side – that are separated by an island. The Horseshoe Falls are more impressive: water here drops 53 m, while the American Falls drop only 21-30 m.

Victoria falls, Zimbabwe

The largest singular waterfall in the world, Victoria Falls spreads out to 1.7km with an average flow of 1 million litres every second! If these figures don’t amaze you, then I don’t know what will. If you go travelling near it, you will have a hard time keeping yourself dry, thanks to all the mist around it. An UNESCO World Heritage site, it is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Victoria falls is truly a work of sublime beauty.

Plitvice falls, Croatia

While most of the other waterfalls mentioned here are singular ones, Plitvice Falls is more like a network of falls, making it one of the most unique one. The many drops end in various hues of blue, ranging from clear to azure to turquoise. These finally extend onto a limestone canyon. Located within a national park, one can hike around and across them. The national park is also an UNESCO World Heritage site.

Angel falls, Venezuela

World’s highest uninterrupted, permanent waterfall deserved a place on this list. It falls mysteriously out of a tabletop mountain in Canaima National Park, in its full glory. Standing as tall as 979 metres, it’s a sight to behold. Though reaching it is a bit of a complicated affair, it hasn’t stopped the true lovers of nature. After reaching the national park, you need a river boat ride and a hike to reach the Angel Fall lookout.

Yosemite falls, USA

Located in Sierra Nevada, California, it is one of the highest falls in the USA (739 metres). Being easy to access, this is one of the most popular tourist destination. The fact that it’s located in the incomparably beautiful Yosemite Valley, too helps its case. The source of this waterfall is melting snow, which is why, sometimes the stream may cease due to a lesser amount of snow.
